Privacy policy.
Last updated: 4 October 2026
VetMapping does not collect, sell or share your personal data. There is no account and no VetMapping server: your sites, notes, photos and settings stay on your device until you export or share them yourself.
What stays on your device
VetMapping keeps the following in the app's private storage on your iPhone, iPad or Android device:
- The sites you add or import: names, owners, phone numbers, serial numbers, areas, coordinates, head counts and the other fields of each kind of site.
- Visit notes and the photos you attach to them. Notes are encrypted on the device, with a key kept in the device's secure keychain.
- The GPS changes log, the import log, the message bank and the numbers read with the camera.
- Your settings, such as language, country, theme and map style.
Deleting the app deletes this data. Export a backup from Settings first if you want to keep it.
When data leaves your device
Only when you choose to: when you export an Excel file or a backup file, share a site or a location, send a WhatsApp message, start navigation, or place a call. The app or service you send it to has its own privacy policy.
Permissions
- Location: to show where you are, place new sites and measure distances. Read only while you use the app, and never sent anywhere.
- Camera: to attach photos to visit notes and to read printed numbers. Text recognition runs on the device.
- Photos: to pick photos for a note or for reading numbers.
- Microphone: only if you record a video while attaching media to a note. VetMapping does not record audio otherwise.
What the app connects to
- Map imagery: map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap and Esri (ArcGIS) while you view the map. As with any map, the request says which area is being shown.
- Shared map links: when you share a Google Maps short link into VetMapping, the app follows the link's redirect to find its coordinates.
- The App Store: purchases are made through Apple, which handles the payment. VetMapping only learns whether the app is unlocked.
VetMapping contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising and no third-party tracking.

If how data is handled ever changes, this page will be updated with a new date, and the change will be noted in the release notes of that version.
